Lendava: Hotels and Accommodation

Lendava Castle has a history spanning more than 800 years. It rises on a steep hill above the old town and is surrounded by picturesque vineyards.

Culture and History

Lendava Castle houses permanent museum exhibitions and memorial rooms for local artists, including György Zala and Štefan Galič. The Lendava Gallery-Museum presents a permanent archaeological, historical and ethnological exhibition as well as a memorial room for György Zala. Another permanent local-history exhibition entitled “The Bourgeoisie, Printing and Umbrella Making in Lendava” is located in a former bourgeois house at Glavna ulica 52.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1728 on Čonka Hill, known as Csuka-domb in Hungarian. The mummified body of military commander Mihael Hadik can be seen in the chapel. Services are held there twice a year: on Trinity Sunday and the Feast of the Guardian Angels.

Lendava Synagogue serves as a venue for concerts and exhibitions. The current exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Jewish population in the Lendava region. The Jewish cemetery in Dolga vas has 128 inscribed tombstones and, like the synagogue, is protected as a monument.

Nature and Views

The Vinarium Tower offers a 360-degree view over Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria. Its dome hosts changing exhibitions of local and regional art. The tower is accessible by lift; the lift goes to the dome and the open-air viewing platform.

The Vinarium Zipline begins near the Piramida viewpoint and ends near the Vinarium Tower. It is just over 500 metres long and reaches speeds of 50 to 65 kilometres per hour.

Murska šuma is a 361-hectare floodplain forest in the lowlands at the confluence of the Ledava and Mur rivers, south of Pince Marof and Benica. Numerous bird species live there; the area is described as one of Slovenia’s most important ornithological areas. Part of Murska šuma has been preserved as primeval forest to this day.

Routes and Activities

The Lendavska vinska turistična cesta extends for nine kilometres from Dolga vas to Pince; its paths lead as far as Dolina, Čentiba and the Dolgovaške gorice hills. Along the Lendava Wine Tourist Road, visitors can stop at one of the wine taverns or excursion farms.

The marked international EV13 cycling route, the Iron Curtain Trail, runs for 79.3 kilometres between Martinje and Pince in the Slovenian-Hungarian border area. Between Dolga vas and Pince, the border trail follows the Slovenian-Hungarian state border, mostly along former border guard paths over the ridges of the Dolgovaške gorice and Lendavske gorice hills.

The Dolinsko Route starts and ends in Lendava and passes, among other places, through Trimlini, Petišovci, Benice, Pince-Marof, Pince, Dolina pri Lendavi, Čentiba, Lendavske Gorice and Dolga Vas.

Mura Adventures offers cycling tours around Lendava and the Mur through vineyards and deciduous forests, using trekking or electric mountain bikes. Mura Adventures also offers hiking tours along the Mur and around the Murska šuma forest.

Spa and Cuisine

Terme Lendava is known for its fossil, healing thermal mineral water. In addition to water-based activities, it offers sauna visits as well as relaxation programmes and cosmetic treatments.

Along Dolinska pot, local wines and culinary specialities are offered, including organic produce from an organic farm. The Vinarium Festival combines Bogračfest, the Lendava grape harvest, the celebration of the tower anniversary, as well as cultural and culinary events.

Bogračfest is considered Slovenia’s largest cooking competition for bograč; visitors can take part in the competition.
