Slivna: Hotels between GEOSS, Circular Trails and Village Culture

GEOSS, a visitor monument at the geometric centre of Slovenia, is located in Slivna. Around this site, signposted trails, historic rural culture and special outdoor experiences come together. The Pot okrog Slivne circular trail is explicitly suitable for all generations, including families with children.

Nature and Trails

The GEOSS circular route starts in Slivna and returns to the village. It is marked with “Pot GEOSS” signs and individual trail markers. Route G8 also passes through GEOSS and Slivna. A 15-minute trail branches off from this route to the summit of Slivna, which is also called Pinkelj Turn.

The Pot okrog Slivne circular trail runs around Slivna Hill and climbs to Pivkelj, which is 880 metres high. The route is easy and suitable for all generations, including families with children. In clear weather, the circular trail offers views of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. Another connection to GEOSS is provided by the “Cycling to the centre of Slovenia” cycling route: it starts and ends in Litija, climbs to the Geometric Centre of Slovenia and then continues to Zgornja Slivna.

Culture

GEOSS GO begins in the square of the Geometric Centre of Slovenia in Spodnja Slivna near Vače. The GEOSS GO route features marked stations, handmade mechanical puzzles and clues in an app. The old Škundrova kašča granary stands in the Etnološka vas Slivna. The complex also includes a partially reconstructed self-sufficient farmstead, showcasing a farmhouse, an apiary, a fruit-drying facility and a smithy.

Wooden sculptures created by local resident Tone Vrtačnik stand in the centre of Slivna. A visit to GEOSS in Slivna conveys symbols of Slovenian identity. The traditional event “Dan GEOSS-a in Dan državnosti” also takes place at the Geometric Centre of Slovenia.

Active Experiences

Pustolovski park Geoss in Slivna has seven treetop climbing courses. These include a 915-metre-long zip line. The park also offers overnight stays on three treetop platforms or in three hammock beds.

In the area between Vače and GEOSS, guided tours are offered with a theatrical approach, animation, fairy-tale characters and Slovenian symbols. The various options range from signposted trails and a cycling route to playful stations, climbing courses and guided tours.

Tradition and Everyday Life

One guided experience includes pottery-making in a ceramics workshop and teaches traditional pottery techniques. It also includes hand-milking sheep, conveying the traditional collection and processing of fresh milk. The experience additionally includes preparing and baking homemade bread in a traditional wood-fired oven.
