Litija: Hotels and Accommodations

The Oglarska pot is an approximately 14-kilometre-long, signposted circular themed trail that passes charcoal burners’ homesteads as well as natural and cultural attractions.

Hiking

The Levstik Trail begins in Litija’s old town and is equipped with more than 80 information boards displaying the complete original travel diary of the Slovenian writer Fran Levstik (1831–1887). Every year on the second Saturday in November, an international mass hike takes place along the Levstik Trail from Litija to Čatež, accompanied by an extensive cultural programme.

The Badjurova pot is a mountain circular hike registered with the Planinska zveza Slovenije and described as easy and suitable for all hikers. The Svibno Forest Educational Trail has 13 learning stations covering forests, animals, plants and the development of trees.

Culture

The Litija City Museum features a permanent exhibition entitled “Southern Railway” as well as a permanent exhibition on the history of navigation on the Sava. It also has a tourism exhibition room entitled “Exploring Litija”.

In Klenik near Vače stands an enlarged replica of the Vače Situla. On the Avenue of Creativity near the replica of the Vače Situla, wooden statues provide insights into Slovenian culture and ways of life. The Vače Archaeological Trail introduces visitors to the culture and way of life of Iron Age Vače.

Nature

The Sitarjevec Mine contains extraordinary sinter formations made of limonite, including stalagmites, stalactites, stalactite curtains and spaghetti-like stalactite formations. Mount Dolgo Brdo is located in the vicinity of Litija. The mountains Kum, Javor and Cicelj are located in the area around Litija.

Near Litija, the Sava forms its largest river bend and its most beautiful gravel deposits. The GEOSS Monument in Slivna is situated in surroundings featuring Slovenian symbols, nature, fresh air and views.

Activities

The access tunnel of the Sitarjevec Mine is step-free and suitable for visitors with limited mobility. At visitors’ request, the miners’ meal “Sitarjevška malca” can be served in the access tunnel of the Sitarjevec Mine.

The GEOSS Adventure Park offers seven climbing routes with varying levels of difficulty. The GEOSS Adventure Park has a 915-metre-long zip line. Visitors can spend the night there in hanging beds in the treetops.

At Charcoal Land in Dole pri Litiji, visitors can observe the traditional production of charcoal kilns and the charring of wood. At Charcoal Land, visitors can actively participate in wood- and fire-related activities associated with charcoal production. Visitors can also sample special cuisine there.
