Nature

In the centre of the spa park in Šmarješke Toplice, there is a pond next to the botanical trail. It is fed by a warm-water spring; Indian lotus, a plant species considered exceptionally rare, has been growing there for years. The natural surroundings also include the hypothermal Klevevška Toplica spring. It rises beneath a large rock on a short tributary on the right bank of the Radulja and is enclosed in a small pool. Its temperature ranges from 21 to 25 °C. The Radulja River gorge also begins at the Klevevž bathing area; it is characterised by numerous small waterfalls and plunge pools.

Culture

The parish church in Šmarjeta contains the mural “Crucifixion”. It was created by an unknown Italian artist and is considered an important treasure of Slovenian religious painting. Klevevž Castle dates back to 1265 and is an important cultural heritage monument in Šmarješke Toplice. A heavily fortified settlement was established on Vinji Vrh as early as the Iron Age; finds in burial grounds bear witness to this.
