Mirna Peč: Hotels, Tabor and Hiking Trails

Mirna Peč combines historical traces and cultural sites with hiking trails, landscape features along the Temenica, and local food and products.

Culture

The foundations of the early modern Tabor of Mirna Peč are presented in the paving at the site. The Tabor of Mirna Peč was built in the early 16th century as a fortification to protect against Ottoman raids.

The Župnijska cerkev sv. Kancijana has been documented since 1433. It has a well-preserved Gothic chancel of significant art-historical importance. Construction work on the Župnijska cerkev sv. Kancijana was completed in 1917.

At the Muzej Lojzeta Slaka in Toneta Pavčka, the Tone Pavček exhibition includes audio recordings, interactive elements and a dynamic visual projection of Pavček’s poetry. The Muzej Lojzeta Slaka in Toneta Pavčka also houses the interactive Čebelji svet pavilion. The museum is intended to become a central cultural and tourism venue in Mirna Peč.

Hiking

Pot Slakove in Pavčkove mladosti is a 12-kilometre hiking route for which approximately three hours are planned at a moderate walking pace. The route begins in front of the cultural centre in Mirna Peč and ends at the Muzej Lojzeta Slaka in Toneta Pavčka in Mirna Peč.

Pot Temenica is a marked 6-kilometre hiking trail. It passes through six points marked on the map. Pot Temenica is suitable for families with children and hikers of average physical fitness.

Every year, Mirna Peč hosts a commemorative hike in honour of the Slovenian poet Tone Pavček and the accordionist and singer Lojze Slak.

Nature

Zijalo is protected as a natural monument because of its hydrogeological and geomorphological features. At Zijalo, beneath a 35-metre-high rocky cliff, there is a flood overflow, or the Vodna jama pod Zijalom water cave. At Zijalo, the Temenica emerges at the surface for the second time.
