Videm – Culture, Landscape and Paths along the Dravinja

Videm pri Ptuju is a compact settlement on both banks of the Dravinja, along the southern edge of the Dravsko polje plain. This is where the Haloze Hills come closest to the branches of the Drava River. Videm pri Ptuju received its present name from the parish church of St. Vitus, which has also historically shaped the centre of the settlement.

Culture

The parish church of St. Vitus was built as early as the Romanesque period and was first mentioned in 1320. It was completed in its present form in 1445. The Minorite Monastery of St. Vitus is also part of the cultural and spiritual setting of the settlement. The monastery's activities include spiritual retreats.

The Frančiškov Park is located directly next to the Minorite Monastery. It features three chapels, benches for resting and a fire pit. The park is used for camping, picnics and recreational activities. The open-air Mass “Frančiškov blagoslov – Hvalnica stvarstva” was held in Frančiškov Park in Videm pri Ptuju on 13 October 2024 and 12 October 2025.

The Klopotec Dravci-Soviče Cultural and Tourism Association makes Presmece in various sizes. They are brought to the parish church of St. Vitus in Videm for blessing. The association also preserves the characteristic archaic folk singing of the Haloze Hills.

Landscape and Nature

A 3 km-long nature trail leads through Šturmovci Landscape Park in the surroundings of Videm pri Ptuju. More than 230 bird species can be observed in the landscape park. The Dravaspust descent also passes through the protected Šturmovci Landscape Park.

Paths and Water

The Videmska planinska pot is classified as an easy mountain hiking trail and leads through Videm pri Ptuju. Checkpoint KT-2 on this route is located at the Pal “Pri treh lipah” inn in Videm pri Ptuju, house number 48. The logbook with the stamp is kept there.

The Pot med vinogradi trail begins in Videm pri Ptuju. Its first checkpoint is located in front of the municipal building. For the Dravaspust, the entry point is in Videm pri Ptuju and the exit point is in Zavrč; the Dravinja and Drava rivers make boating possible there. The complete Dravaspust descent takes 4 to 6 hours.

Wine and Events

In the centre of Videm pri Ptuju, behind the church of St. Vitus, lies Vidova klet. Guided wine tastings are held there. Vidova klet offers more than 25 different quality and premium wines from 15 winemakers from the Haloze Hills.

After the grape harvest, the Klopotec Dravci-Soviče Cultural and Tourism Association organises a blessing of the young wine, as well as a Martinovanje celebration featuring a humorous young-wine baptism. “Fašenk na Vidmu” is an ethnographic carnival procession through the centre of Videm pri Ptuju. A traditional carnival event is also held in Videm pri Ptuju.
