Culture
In the old quarter of Andijon, there is an ethnographic handicraft zone where folk artisans and master craftsmen have been working and operating handicraft shops for six centuries. Torbozor Street in Andijon's Mahalla Zahiriddin Muhammad Bobur is also an ethnographic handicraft zone.
The Jome architectural complex is located in the old district of Andijon. It was built at the end of the 19th century according to a design by the architect Usta Isaxon Muhammad Muso o‘g‘li, following the national traditions of the architectural school of the Fergana Valley. The Jome architectural complex also houses the Literature and Art Museum of the Andijan Region.
The Zahiriddin Muhammad Bobur House Museum is located in the centre of Andijon on Bog‘ishamol Hill. It offers interactive presentations and an audio guide about Bobur's life and poetry. It also displays rare diplomatic documents, gifts from rulers of neighbouring dynasties and souvenirs that tell of diplomatic relations with the khans of Central Asia.
The Devonaboy Mosque is considered Andijon's central mosque for Eid and Friday prayers. The Xonaqo-Jome Mosque in Andijon was built in 1561 by Sherali Eshon. The Madrasa Ark ichi is used as a branch of the State Museum of History and Culture of the Andijan Region.
The Andijan Regional Z. M. Bobur Music, Drama and Comedy Theatre was opened on 7 November 1919 and is located in the centre of Andijon.
History
The Old Qal’a Fortress in Andijon's Mahalla Dukchi Eshon was built in 1880–1881 as a defensive fortress for the troops of Tsarist Russia. Its walls are more than 10 metres high. The Old Qal’a Fortress witnessed the Andijon uprising of 1898 led by Dukchi Eshon.
The bell tower of the Russian Cemetery in Andijon was built at the beginning of the 20th century. It remains in good condition to this day, is considered a unique old architectural monument and attracts foreign tourists.
City and Recreation
The Zahiriddin Muhammad Bobur National Recreation Park in Andijon was established in 1973, covers 357 hectares and has a 3.5-kilometre cable car.
