Those, who are familiar with works by Rene Magritte, have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the other side of talented creative surrealist artist at the photo exhibition «WIERNOŚĆ OBRAZÓW. RENÉ MAGRITTE I FOTOGRAFIA », which is being held in Krakow.
The famous Belgian surrealist painter Rene Magritte is better known as the author of witty, poetic and mysterious paintings. However, visitors of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow have a unique opportunity to see the exhibition of photographs created by internationally renowned artist, which will be held as part of the Month of Photography in the cultural capital of Poland.
Unique almost unknown collection of photographs created by Rene Magritte is similar in nature to the family photo album, which contains images of the artist’s family and friends. Photos like the famous artist’s paintings are filled with fine irony, easiness and incredible magic magnetism.
Collection of photographs by Rene Magritte presented at the exhibition in Krakow was first discovered in the 70s. Photos were hidden in the artist’s family albums and shoe boxes, where they have been stored for decades.
The exhibition consists mainly of photographs by Rene Magritte made in the period from 1928 to 1955. The exhibition will also be supplemented by drawings, lithographs, and amateur films created by the artist. According to the exhibition curator Natalia Żak, Rene Magritte was a big fan of movies, mostly comedies, which is reflected in the relaxed atmosphere of burlesque, which fills the movies created by the artist.
