Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, will be able to offer its guests a special product: free excursions along the city. Starting from July 13, 2012 all tourists can use the opportunity to learn the history and sights of Plovdiv for free.
Plovdiv became the third city in Bulgaria, which offers free excursions. Previously such initiative has been implemented in the capital Sofia and in the main resort of Bulgaria Varna.
Free tours in Plovdiv will be organized in English, so for many Russian-speaking tourists this proposal is free of charge only at first glance. Because they will have to pay for the English courses in order to understand the guide.
Free Plovdiv Tour is the organization, which organizes free educational tours of the city with the help of volunteers. It will begin at 6 p.m. in the city center in front of the tourist office, which is located next to the city post office.
These tours will last about 2 hours. During this time its participants will visit the Odeon, the old town of Plovdiv. The route has 20 stops, including the Roman amphitheater near the Thracian fortress, as well as one of the hills with a panoramic view of the city.
The initiative to organize free excursions in Plovdiv is part of the promotion campaign of the city, which fights for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2019.
The main purpose of free tours is promotion of Bulgaria abroad. Since the beginning of the first tours, which were held in Sofia and Bulgaria under the name Free Sofia Tour, they were visited by 15,000 visitors from 105 countries from all around the world. It is expected that Plovdiv will not be the last city in Bulgaria with free tours. It is already known that volunteer guides from Veliko Tarnovo have agreed to participate in the Free Tour.
