Bajram Curri lies at the foot of Bjeshka e Bisheva and Poni. The cityscape brings together historical landmarks and connections to the mountain landscape around the Valbona Valley – from museums and monuments to roads crossing mountain passes and natural areas.

Culture and History

The Tropoja Historical Museum is located in the centre of Bajram Curri. The building combines traditional elements of a mountain farmhouse with contemporary details. It was built in 1985, covers 1,300 m² and is divided into eight exhibition halls arranged in a spiral. The museum presents the history, culture and everyday life of Tropoja. The areas and objects on display include traditional costumes, ethnographic objects, work equipment, household utensils and craft tools.

The statue of Bajram Curri stands in front of the museum. Another statue of the freedom fighter is located in the martyrs’ cemetery in Bajram Curri. The city also contains the bust of the hero Asim Vokshi and the bas-relief of the District Historical Museum. These individual sites are located within the urban area and add to the insight into the history that is publicly visible in Tropoja.

The “Sofra Dardane” Festival is also part of the city’s cultural calendar. It has been held every year in Bajram Curri since 2003 and brings together artists and folk groups from all regions of Albania.

Nature and Mountains

The Vrella e Shoshanit spring is located 3 km from Bajram Curri, at the entrance to the Valbona Valley. It forms the gorge of the same name, which has been classified as a natural monument of the district. The gorge is 2–3 m wide and 50 m deep. The nearby Valbona Valley is 23 km from Bajram Curri, is a state-protected natural monument and has been declared a National Nature Park.

In the nearby Valbona National Park, visitors can go hiking, explore nature, mountaineer, fish and visit caves. The Dragobi Cave is located near the village of Dragobi. It is associated with the national hero Bajram Curri and offers an opportunity to explore nature and history.

Routes and Connections

The Bajram Curri–Valbona road connects the city with the Valbona Valley and is considered paved and comparatively well maintained. Another connection is the Krumë–Qafë-Prush–Bajram Curri route. It is a secondary road connection from Kukës to Bajram Curri via mountain passes and connects Tropoja with the city.

Regular bus and minibus services operate between Bajram Curri and Tirana, Kukës and other larger cities for regional connections. Thus, in addition to mountain roads, regular public transport connections to important cities are available.

Travelling in the Mountain Region

The route to the Gashi River usually begins in Bajram Curri. It leads through the mountain villages of Dragobi, Qerem, Markovçë, Rorkuz and Dobërdol, and then on foot through mountainous terrain to the natural area. This adventure section takes about 45 minutes.

Festivals and Regional Food

At the chestnut festival in Bajram Curri, a fair featuring traditional foods made from chestnuts was held. Alongside the historical sites and natural areas, this also links a festival associated with regional products to the city’s events.
