Baks-Rrjollë: Hotels, Sandy Beach and Viluni Lagoon

Baks-Rrjollë stretches along the coast east of Viluni Lagoon. Viluni Lagoon is a saltwater area connected to the sea by a natural channel. It is characterised by a rich and diverse wildlife, particularly its birdlife.

Coast and nature

In the area around Baks-Rrjoll, the protected Buna–Velipojë landscape is part of the Emerald Network and the Important Bird Areas. In the same area, this landscape is an important wintering and breeding ground for waterfowl; around 138 bird species have been recorded there. The Rrjoll area around Baks-Rrjoll belongs to the Buna–Velipojë protected landscape in IUCN Category V.

Rrjolli Beach is a four-kilometre-long sandy beach. Small lakes, dunes and forests surround the beach. The nearby area around Baks-Rrjoll also includes Plazhi i Velipojës beach, the Maja e Zezë peak, Mali Kolaj mountain and the Maja e Nikgjonit peak. Thus, in addition to the coast and lagoon, the named landscape encompasses sandy areas, inland waters, dunes, forests and prominent elevations.

Routes

From the settlement of Baks-Rrjoll, the mostly unpaved sandy track leads across Rrjoll and over open sandy areas. In summer, it is used mainly by tourists to reach the beach. The programme for regional and local connecting roads also includes the construction and rehabilitation of the Shëngjin–Baks-Rrjoll road.

Culture
