Culture and History

Hovhannes Tumanyan was born and grew up in the house that is now operated as his house museum in Dsegh. The Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum in Dsegh was established in 1939 in the poet’s father’s house. It has two floors and six rooms with more than 300 items from Tumanyan’s life and literary work. On the second floor, the museum displays his bed, desk, clothing, and other personal belongings. The house museum also organizes commemorative events and annual Tumanyan Days.

Landscape and Trails

Dsegh is surrounded by wooded mountain slopes and deep gorges. The Dsegh Loop begins in Dsegh, passes through the local forest, and returns through a river valley. It reaches the ruins of the St. Gregory Bardzrakash Monastery, which is accessible only on foot. Tsover Lake is nearby, about three kilometers from the center of Dsegh village; hiking and picnicking are possible there.

Activities and Events

Dsegh has cycling routes and bicycle rentals for exploring the surrounding landscapes. The Tourism Unique Center in Dsegh offers a seven-kilometer cycling experience as a round trip around the Dsegh Plateau, with views of gorges and nearby natural sites. Horseback rides near Dsegh last from a few hours to several days and offer opportunities to experience the nature of Lori. The Edible Plants Festival also takes place annually in Dsegh.
