Tumanjan: Hotels and Accommodation

Tumanjan is located on terraces along the right bank of the lower Debed River basin in the Debed Canyon. Its natural landscape consists of mountain forests. Wild berries and medicinal herbs grow in the forests around Tumanjan, while the flat riverbank areas are occupied by orchards.

Nature

The deep Debed Gorge and rock cavities on its steep, wooded slopes have been identified as natural monuments.

Culture and History

Tumanjan is home to a Matchbox Label Museum displaying thousands of labels from around the world on various themes and from different periods. The town also has a local history museum.

The town was renamed in 1951 in honor of the poet Hovhannes Tumanyan. Tumanjan has 11 monuments included in Armenia’s 2002 state list of historical and cultural monuments. The historical and cultural monuments date from the 2nd to the 1st millennium BC through to the 13th to 15th centuries.

Surroundings and Accommodation

The Kober station is located near Tumanjan. It is 1 kilometer from the town and lies on the opposite bank of the Debed River. A 4-kilometer section of the Yerevan–Tbilisi railway line also runs through Kober station nearby.

Tumanjan offers overnight accommodation in private guesthouses as well as in a bathhouse hostel. On the town square, there is an international lending library with hundreds of English-language books.
