Location

Azatamut lies on the right bank of the Aghstev, 11 km northeast of Ijevan. The place is situated at an altitude of around 580 meters above sea level. The Ijevan–Berd highway runs through Azatamut. The place borders directly on the villages of Barxudarlı and Sofulu in Azerbaijan’s Qazakh District.

Culture

Makaravank is a monastery complex in the Tavush Province, on the wooded upland slopes of the Bazum mountain range. The buildings are made of dark pink andesite and red tuff. Richly carved geometric and decorative motifs depict flowers, fish, birds, sphinxes, and sirens.
