Wine
Aghavnadzor’s old vineyards preserve vines that are 120 years old. Matevosyan wines produced in Aghavnadzor are made from local grapes. Koor’s independent Aurora vineyard is located in Aghavnadzor. In 2017, Koor acquired 14.5 hectares of vineyards in historic Aghavnadzor. Lusarev sources grapes both from local farmers and its own vineyards and oversees its wine production from grape harvesting through bottling.
Culture and History
The historic settlement of Ulgyur lies within the administrative areas of Aghavnadzor and Rind. Ulgyur is the birthplace of Momik, a 13th-century medieval Armenian architect, miniaturist, and sculptor. According to reports, Momik built a small chapel at his birthplace in Ulgyur. The settlement associated with Aghavnadzor preserves the foundations of the Church of St. Stephen, dating from the 13th century.
Excavations carried out in 1995 and 2004 in the courtyard of the chapel church in Ulgyur uncovered an ancient cemetery with rows of mostly flat gravestones. Two vishap stones stand near the chapel church in Ulgyur; one was reworked into a khachkar in 1001, while the other dates from the 11th to 12th century.
