Yeghegnadzor connects a central section of the Transcaucasian Trail with remarkable cultural and natural attractions. From the centre of Yeghegnadzor, the Transcaucasian Trail continues southwest towards the Arpa Protected Landscape Visitor Centre. Nearby, the trail also leads to the historic Dadal Bridge, dating from the time of the Silk Road, which spans the Arpa River.

Yeghegnadzor has supermarkets where hikers can replenish their supplies along the Transcaucasian Trail route. There is also a medical centre in the Vayots Dzor section of the trail. The town has pharmacies, while the villages along the Transcaucasian Trail route do not have any pharmacies.

The Arpa Environmental Foundation has an office and its headquarters in Yeghegnadzor. The headquarters office serves as a visitor contact point for the Arpa Protected Landscape. The foundation offers wildlife-watching activities in specially protected natural areas, where experienced rangers can spot bezoar goats.

Culture and History

The Yeghegnadzor Gallery is a branch of the National Gallery at 1 Momik Street and was founded in 1978. It regularly organises exhibitions of Armenian fine art. Momik City Park is home to a Bronze Age Vishap stone, a 2.70-metre-high prehistoric monolith. It was moved there in 1984 from near the Orbelian Caravanserai at Selim Pass.

The Yeghegnadzor Geological Museum preserves more than 12,000 artefacts excavated in Vayots Dzor and dating from the 10th to the 17th century. The museum also includes an ethnographic exhibition and a numismatic display featuring coins and paper money dating back as far as the 1st century.

The Yeghegnadzor Regional Museum presents collections covering archaeology, ethnography, numismatics, sculpture, nature and other fields. These include material on the history, everyday life, customs and beliefs of the 17th to the 20th century.

Local Flavours

Local specialities include a Yeghegnadzor version of Masrapur. This is a rosehip soup with semolina, olive oil, onions, apricots, strawberries and dry lavash.
