Somry is home to a grave for victims of fascism, where 180 villagers are buried who were killed by the German occupiers in October 1942. In 1984, an obelisk was erected at the grave of the war victims in Somry.

Culture and Tradition

According to a local legend, Christians wanted to build a chapel in Somry next to the glacial erratic at a crossroads. The stone subsequently acquired a hollow and became a place of worship.

A cemetery with stone tombstones dating from the 17th century has been preserved near Somry. The local population calls it the Latin Cemetery or the Uniate Cemetery.

Landscape and Traditions

The Snake Stone is located near Somry in Krupki District. The glacial erratic “Божье кресло” was brought to Krupki and placed next to the district local history museum in Krupki.

According to local tradition, the Snake King at the Snake Stone transformed into a handsome young musician on the Annunciation and the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. A local tradition advises against going into the forest near the Snake Stone on the Annunciation and the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
