Vialiki Trascianiec: Hotels and Accommodation

Vialiki Trascianiec is closely associated with the commemoration of Trostenets. In the vicinity of Vyaliki Trastsyanets, several square kilometers surrounding the Maly Trostenets memorial project were placed under state protection to prevent development or any other use. In the same area, the first construction phase of the Maly Trostenets memorial complex opened in summer 2015 as a memorial site for the victims.

Culture

A virtual tour of Trostenets explains the crimes committed during the German occupation and the site's development into a memorial site from the end of the Second World War to the present day. The Historical Workshop offers themed tours and events on the history of the Minsk Ghetto, the Trostenets extermination camp, and other sites of Nazi crimes in Belarus.

For over 20 years, students and teachers at the school museum in Bolshoy Trostenets conducted research, met eyewitnesses and former prisoners, contacted relatives of the victims, and worked with the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War. The school museum in Bolshoy Trostenets opened on the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus.

The planned memorial, “The Massif of Names,” was intended to commemorate nearly 10,000 Austrian Jewish men and women who were deported from Vienna toward Minsk between May and October 1942 and murdered in Maly Trostenets.

History

In Bolshoy Trostenets stands a memorial obelisk for the victims of the Trostenets extermination camp, erected in 1963 as part of the Trostenets memorial complex to commemorate the victims of Nazism, with an eternal flame. The Trostenets memorial complex in Bolshoy Trostenets also includes a memorial square.

In the vicinity of Vyaliki Trastsyanets, the Trostenets memorial complex connects the obelisk in Bolshoy Trostenets with the former camp site in Maly Trostenets, the cremation site in Shashkovka, and the site of the mass shootings in Blahovshchyna. Historically, commemorative ceremonies for Maly Trostenets took place mainly in Bolshoy Trostenets, several kilometers from the former camp site.

In the vicinity of Vyaliki Trastsyanets, the Trostenets memorial complex's excursion route begins along the “Road of Death,” the path along which prisoners were led. The central monument of the Trostenets memorial complex is the ten-meter-high bronze composition “Gates of Memory.”

In the vicinity of Vyaliki Trastsyanets, Leonid Levin's “Path of Death” invites visitors to follow the victims' final route across concrete suitcases, stylized railway cars, and a section of forest to the mass graves or shooting pits. The forest of Blahovshchyna contains shooting and mass graves, as well as the “Path of Death” and the “Forest of Remembrance.”
