Culture
The Lepel Center of Crafts organizes workshops to revive traditional crafts and reconstructs authentic collections and techniques. In Lyepyel’, there is also a municipal, audio-guided walking route that takes about 1 hour and is 3.5 kilometers long.
The historic architecture includes the wooden Church of St Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. It is a monument to traditional Belarusian wooden architecture, was built in 1840–1841, and was remodeled at the beginning of the 20th century. The Church of St Casimir is a historic Catholic church built between 1857 and 1876 in the classical style and regarded as a valuable historical and architectural site.
Individual buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries have been preserved on Freedom Square. A monument to Lev Sapieha was unveiled in the center of Lyepyel’ in 2010. The Lepel District Local History Museum is housed in a reconstructed former red-brick wine-cleaning warehouse built in 1897–1898.
Nature
Lyepyel’ lies on the shore of Lepel Lake.
Lepel Lake is used by anglers; species found there include pike, crucian carp, pike-perch, bream, and perch. Lepel Lake is the largest lake in Lepel District. Its basin consists of three parts.
Geographical Location
Lyepyel’ is the terminus of the Orsha–Lyepyel railway line. Roads connect Lyepyel’ with Polotsk, Minsk, Vitebsk, and Orsha.
