Gospodintsi: Hotels and Accommodations

Gospodintsi lies within the protected area zone along the Mesta River, BG0001021. It protects river habitats, unmanaged caves, and several forest habitats. The village is also located in the Mesta bird protection area, whose designated purpose is to preserve and restore habitats for certain bird species.

Nature

The Bekir-Salievata Cave is recorded within the village area and is also known as Rimskata Dupka and Drevniyat Rudnik. It is a wet, 158 m long and 31 m deep vertical cave with “free access” status. Its vertical sections require alpine equipment, a rope, and a ladder. The cave is labyrinthine and was used for iron ore extraction.

A walk along the river leads to a rocky canyon after about 40 minutes. The entrance to Penkinata Cave is reached after passing through the Skoka Gorge. The Karasanov Bridge Gorge lies on the former direct route to Osikovo and is described as a place with impressive rock formations and beautiful views.

Culture and History

Gospodintsi is one of the villages where archaeological monuments are particularly concentrated. The village is associated with prehistoric, Thracian, ancient, late antique, and medieval settlements, necropolises, and sanctuaries.

The Tsiropolis Fortress is described as a Thracian, late antique, and medieval fortress. It is located 1.02 km east of the village center on a conical hill on the left bank of the Mesta. Traces of three fortification walls and scattered building remains have been preserved along the slope at the fortress; a southern wall also survives.

The Alton Mosque was officially opened in Gospodintsi. Ramadan Bayram and Kurban Bayram are celebrated in the village with traditional performances by authentic folklore groups.

Cycling

The Ognyanovo–Skrebatno–Gospodintsi mountain bike route descends to Gospodintsi along the Mesta River. At 14.8 km, the route reaches the village center, where a rest stop is possible. It is 24.1 km long overall and has a high technical difficulty level. GPS navigation is recommended, as following the trail may otherwise be difficult.

Surroundings

The nearby mineral water of Ognyanovo and the architectural reserves of Kovachevitsa and Leshten are cited as advantages for Gospodintsi.
