Levunovo is located 10 km south of Sandanski on the international E-79 road. The village combines tangible evidence of its history with a traditional community center, mineral springs, an ancient settlement site, and vineyards.
Culture and History
The St. George Memorial Church was destroyed during the Balkan War and later restored by soldiers and officers of the Second Army. Inside, memorial plaques name officers and soldiers who fell in the area; the poet Dimcho Debelyanov is also among them.
A large memorial fountain stands in Levunovo's village square. It was built by army soldiers at the request of local residents. It bears military symbols and a plaque with verses by Ivan Vazov.
The Otets Paisiy community center dates back to 1927, and its library was established in 1934. The community center building is described as a building with a library of approximately 8,500 volumes. The Zdravets and Lalenche groups participate in folklore festivals in Bulgaria and abroad.
The ancient settlement of Skalichkite lies 300 meters southeast of Levunovo railway station. There is a high concentration of household and building pottery, as well as stones from the foundations of collapsed buildings. Five votive tablets depicting Artemis were also found at the ancient settlement of Skalichkite.
