Yakoruda: Hotels and Accommodations

The Municipality of Yakoruda and MTB-BG have mapped and marked several mountain biking routes within the municipality. From Treshenik, marked trails lead to Grunchar Hut, the Yakoruda Lakes and Mount Musala. Yakoruda is also a starting point for hikes to the resort of Treshenik in the Rila Mountains above the town.

Associated with Yakoruda are houses from the National Revival period in the Razlog–Chepino architectural style in the town center, the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius from 1835, the Church of Saint George, and a mosque completed in 1952. In Yakoruda, Christians and Muslims celebrate Saint George’s Day together, while the local community has revived the old ritual “Topene na belezi.”

A museum collection in the Yakoruda community center comprises more than 1,050 archaeological and ethnographic exhibits, as well as photographs, manuscripts and coins.

The Rhodope narrow-gauge railway offers a year-round tourist journey through Septemvri, Velingrad, Yakoruda, Razlog, Bansko and Dobrinishte. It connects Yakoruda with the other places mentioned and runs along the highest railway line in the Balkans.

The Yakoruda Mineral Baths stop is the nearest narrow-gauge railway access point for the footpath to Kalyata Fortress. The fortress is visible from the stop and is reached via an unmarked path. The walk from the stop to Kalyata takes 20 to 30 minutes and offers views of three mountains.

The route from Yakoruda to Nehtenski Waterfall starts at the central square, initially heads toward Yundola, and then follows the main road along the river. The total distance for the outward and return journey is stated as 23.5 kilometers. The route is rated low in terms of technical difficulty and physical exertion; the estimated duration is 2 to 4 hours.

Of the route, 9.0 kilometers are on asphalt, 14.2 kilometers on gravel or dirt roads, and 0.3 kilometers on footpaths leading to the waterfall. At route point 11.7 kilometers, the route reaches a wooden bridge and signs pointing to the waterfall.

The final access section takes about one minute along a wide, easy path to a wooden platform. This is followed by another 2 to 3 minutes over more difficult and dangerous terrain to the waterfall.
