The historical name of Merichleri’s mineral water is Solentsi. It refers to the salty taste of the water and to mineral salts formed through natural evaporation. The water is highly mineralized, is used for drinking cures, and is rich in trace elements.

The thermomineral waters of Merichleri are reported to have a flow rate of 30 liters per second and a temperature of 35.4 °C. The water-related facilities include an Olympic-size mineral swimming pool supplied with water from the Solentsi spring. Because of its highly mineralized water, Merichleri is associated with rather limited opportunities for balneotherapy tourism.

Culture

The ethnographic collection traces the history of Merichleri and its community center. At the same time, it preserves the cultural heritage of the place for future generations.

History

The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 1858 on the site of a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas. It is one of the first churches in Haskovo Province.

The area of present-day Merichleri is described as the site of a Thracian settlement from before the beginning of the Common Era and a later Roman settlement.
