History

The Gradishte locality lies 2 km north of Simeonovgrad and contains remains of medieval settlements from the 13th and 14th centuries. Approximately 2.43 km east of Simeonovgrad lies the Constancia fortress site at Assara. It is described as a prehistoric, Thracian, ancient, late antique, and medieval fortified settlement on a plateau with steep slopes.

Nature

The Sazliyka River is a left-bank tributary of the Maritsa and flows into it east of Simeonovgrad.

The municipality of Simeonovgrad is a traditional producer of watermelons and melons.

Transport

Simeonovgrad has road and rail connections towards Plovdiv, Sofia, and Svilengrad. Direct roads lead to Haskovo, Harmanli, Stara Zagora, Galabovo, and Dimitrovgrad. Buses run daily through the municipality towards Haskovo, Harmanli, and Galabovo.
