Kocherinovo: Hotels and accommodations

The Stob Pyramids are predominantly cone-shaped formations with stone caps and are generally 7 to 10 meters high; individual formations reach 12 meters. They are located in the area of Stob at the entrance to the gorge leading to the Rila Monastery and consist of clay-sandy formations with deeply incised shapes.

In Stob, a visitor and information center operates in connection with the natural landmark.

The Kocherinovo protected area is internationally significant for the breeding of corncrakes and is one of Bulgaria's important EU areas for white storks, which forage in wet meadows.

History and Culture

Archaeological remains near Kocherinovo include the walls, buildings, and water conduits of the medieval Bulgarian fortress settlement of Krashevo.

Kocherinovo has a children's theater school with ten participants. The equipped Global Libraries halls in Kocherinovo and Stob provide information services and support for using computer equipment.

Since 2000, the Kocherinovo Municipality has celebrated its town festival annually on September 21. Traditional cultural events of the municipality include Palm Sunday, International Dance Day, Stork Day, and Crafts Day.

After a 15-year break, theatrical activities resumed in Kocherinovo Municipality; over several months, five theatrical performances, a stage circus show, and other cultural events took place.

Getting There and Surroundings

The Sofia–Kulata–Thessaloniki–Athens railway line runs through Kocherinovo Municipality. Kocherinovo railway station is in operation; there is also the Mursalevo railway stop.

The route to the Rila Monastery uses the international E79 road. In Kocherinovo, continue via the signposted turnoff; approximately 25 kilometers remain to the monastery. The Rila Monastery is a preferred tourist destination in Bulgaria and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1983.
