History and Cityscape

The fortress of Lovech stands on Hisarlaka Hill on the right bank of the Osam and was part of a defensive system that protected the approaches to Tarnovo and the Troyan Pass. On the eastern bank of the Osam lies Varosha, the old quarter of Lovech, which emerged during the Bulgarian National Revival. The exhibition also includes vessels for producing and aging wine from the Lovech wine-growing region. The Ethnographic Complex “Drasova and Rashova Houses” in Lovech consists of two houses.

The Prof. Teofan Sokerov Art Gallery in Lovech preserves more than 2,700 works of painting, graphic art, sculpture, and applied art.

Nature and Trails

Stratesh Park has a direct connection to Varosha, leading to the monument to Vasil Levski and the fortress of Lovech. The park offers panoramic views and includes a lake, a rose garden, and an alpine garden.

Nearby, access to Devetashka Cave leads from the Lovech–Devetaki road via an approximately 3-kilometer-long ecological trail. Devetashka Cave is designated as a natural monument.

Orientation

The Covered Bridge is unique of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula and serves as a covered shopping street. It connects the newer part of Lovech with the Varosha architectural and historical reserve. The Lovech Tourist Information Center is located inside; it provides tourist information services for Lovech and the surrounding region.
