Nature

Saeva Dupka in Brestnitsa, in the municipality of Yablanitsa, is classified as a natural landmark. The Zlatna Panega Springs were also declared a natural landmark by Decree No. 3384 of 8 December 1966. The municipality of Yablanitsa also includes the Dragoitsa protected area and designated scenic locations such as Bezdanen Pchelin.

The Zlatna Panega Springs consist of two basins, of which the eastern Upper Springs basin is larger than the western one. The water is a pale blue-green color, which is associated with calcium carbonate. It is possible to drive almost all the way to the springs; a short footpath leads to them from the parking area.

Activities

At the entrance to Yablanitsa from the direction of Koritna, the Gargulitsa Reservoir, which is stocked with fish, is listed as a sport fishing site. The Yablanitsa Sports Complex includes indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a mini football field and stands for 200 spectators. The Via Ferra climbing system at Great Lednitsa in Brestnitsa uses cables, rope bridges, stairs and handrails; it includes route combinations of varying difficulty levels.

The Ribena fish farm in Zlatna Panega offers sport fishing in two basins and a restaurant serving freshly prepared fish dishes. At the highest point of the Dragoitsa foothills, there is a level platform for hang gliding. The cycling routes in Dragoitsa are presented as a combination of sports and ecotourism, with views towards the plain.

The municipality lists two eco-trails that begin in Yablanitsa: one passes through the area of Bezdanen Pchelin, Nanovsko Blato and Peshta Cave, while the other heads towards the Dragoitsa foothills and the protected area. Two other listed eco-trails begin at different locations within the municipality. At Chitalishte Nauka, adults and children can learn folk dances such as Horo and Rachenitsa; traditional costumes are also included in presentations of these traditions.

Culture

The Yablanitsa museum collection is housed at Chitalishte Nauka and comprises more than 1,500 exhibits arranged according to periods of local history. It is also included as a stop on the second day of a municipal two-day cultural tourism route. The collection displays reproductions of local crafts, including blacksmithing, Aba fabric production, pottery, leatherworking and halva making.

The Kekevo House from the Bulgarian National Revival period in the municipality of Yablanitsa houses a museum collection opened in 1966, featuring letters related to Levski, a reliquary sword and old printed books. The Church of Sveta Troitsa is the only church in the municipality of Yablanitsa designated as a place for religious services and rituals.

Cuisine

At the Vivian 1 and Pet Plus workshops near the Shumaka neighborhood, visitors can learn about and sample Yablanitsa halva, lokum and other confectionery products. “Бял мъж” is described as a Yablanitsa-specific fresh cheese dish that can be sweetened with sugar or honey.

Getting There

From Sofia to Yablanitsa, the route follows the Hemus Motorway or the old road. At the entrance to the town, turn towards Gorno Shumnene.
