Strelcha: Hotels and accommodation

Strelcha has a municipal balneotherapy centre with an indoor mineral-water pool, several outdoor pools, the municipal mineral beach, the natural Bancheto mineral spring and a medical centre offering physiotherapy and therapeutic exercises.

Nature and history

The rock formations of Strelcha consist of granite colossi and rock needles rising to the north and northeast of the town. They are spread across seven named localities and are protected under Bulgarian nature conservation law.

The Heroon of Zhaba Mogila dates from the 5th century BC. The complex consists of a tomb mausoleum and a sanctuary temple.

The defensive walls of the medieval Strelchansko Kale, approximately eight metres high, have been preserved.

The Memorial Church of St. Archangel Michael in Strelcha dates from 1904. It bears the names of those who lost their lives from the April Uprising through the Second World War.

Local life

The town festival of essential oil plants and tourism includes an Aromas Avenue and a Crafts Avenue. At the local tourism fair held as part of the festival, visitors can taste rose jam and rose rakia. The festival also includes an open day at Strelcha’s Old Rose Distillery, where the extraction of rose oil is demonstrated.

The Nedeleva House contains a permanent exhibition about rose picking. It describes rose picking as Strelcha’s most important source of income from the Liberation to the present day.

Getting around

Strelcha serves as a starting point for trekking routes in the SÅ­shtinska Sredna Gora. These lead to natural and historical destinations such as Zhaba Mogila, Kamennata Prikazka, fortresses, and the peaks of VÅ­lk and Bogdan. The route to Strelchansko Kale takes approximately 40 minutes.
