Mineral Springs

Thermal mineral springs rise in Banite beside the riverbed of the Malka Arda in the Western Rhodopes. Together, the springs have a flow rate of 500 liters per minute. Those wishing to book a hotel in Banite can then continue searching for accommodation.

Remains of an ancient bath have been excavated beside the mineral springs of Banite.

Nature and Trails

The “Oryahovski Waterfalls” eco-trail begins below the church in Banite, is marked in blue and white, and leads on an easy hike of approximately 3.5 km with an elevation difference of 120 m. The first waterfall is about 45 to 50 minutes from the starting point of the trail and is 10 meters high. The eco-trail has three bridges, two pavilions, and four tables with benches.

The Malka Arda Route includes visitor infrastructure such as pavilions, wooden bridges, shelters, benches, and fountains. Nearby, the ascent to Svoboda Peak begins at Svoboda Hut, which can be reached via a narrow asphalt road with a large parking area and a meadow. The Samotnoto Darvo eco-trail above Banite is a marked, steep 2 km route with a rest area and a water source.

Regional Cuisine

Banite’s local restaurants, taverns, family gatherings, fairs, and traditional celebrations offer opportunities to try Rhodope dishes. Rhodope kolatsi are described as thick pancakes baked on a hot tikla and served with homemade jam, honey, or cheese. In the culinary tradition of the Rhodopes, kachamak can be prepared with wheat flour or potatoes and filled with curd, cheese, leeks, eggs, or boiled meat.
