Vakarel: Hotels and Accommodations

Vakarel’s cultural history includes the Sts Peter and Paul Chapel. It was built in 1927 and stands on Brunkova Kitka, about 1 km from Brunkovtsi. During its construction, older foundations, a Roman fibula, and coins of Emperor John Tzimiskes were discovered.

Near Vakarel lies the Vakarel St Petka Monastery, about 2 km south of the village, in the Ichtiman section of Sredna Gora. It consists of a single-nave church with an apse and a residential building and is partially active.

The Vakarel digital library publishes digitized works on local history and ethnography in full text. Its video galleries contain material about the area’s past and spirituality. The digital library project also produced an album with around 37 authentic songs and a documentary about the history of Vakarel.

Nature

Vakarel Gorata organizes archery at an on-site training ground with an instructor. Bows, arrows, and protective equipment are available on request. Vakarel Gorata also offers outdoor activities, including table tennis, football, basketball, disc golf, badminton, and volleyball.

Vakarel Gorata’s offerings include a lunch prepared in the village, hospitality ranging from brunch to barbecue, as well as herbal tea, coffee, and drinks.

History and Transport

The Tsaribrod–Sofia–Vakarel railway line, dating from 1888, was part of the international Tsaribrod–Belgrade–Vienna railway route. It was the first railway in Bulgaria to be built by a Bulgarian company and financed by the Bulgarian state.
