Nature

The Dushnika Cave, also known as Iskrets Cave, is a 877-meter-long spring cave near the Iskrets–Breze road and is located about one kilometer from the outskirts of Iskrets. Access is free, but the cave requires special equipment and contains two siphons.

Culture

The Monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Iskrets is classified as a cultural monument of national importance because of its artistic and architectural-engineering value. The narthex of the monastery church contains 13 scenes depicting the Revelation of John.

The seven-sided baptistery with confessional at the monastery is described as the only independent baptistery built in a Bulgarian monastery. The parish church in Iskrets celebrates its annual feast on December 6, the feast day of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.

In 1921, around 50 to 60 religious votive sites dedicated to various saints were recorded in Iskrets and in the surrounding fields and hills. An engraved psalter from Iskrets Monastery was printed in Venice in the 16th century.

Trails and mountains

The Iskrets–Mecha Polyana hiking route begins west of the Tsar Ferdinand I Sanatorium, follows an old Ottoman road, and runs at elevations ranging from 527 to 1,029 meters. The Tsar Ferdinand I Sanatorium in Iskrets was founded in 1908 by decree and donation of Tsar Ferdinand I as an antituberculosis sanatorium. Short excursions are possible on the mountain slopes and meadows immediately above Iskrets.

Regular bus services connect Svoge and Iskrets; in Svoge, onward travel to the Ponor settlements is possible by bus or taxi.
