Emen: Hotels and Accommodation
Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Emen can then continue their accommodation search. The route follows the entire Emen Gorge and offers beautiful views, lookout points, wooden bridges and stairs, as well as rest areas; approximately three hours are planned for the route.
Nature
The Emen Eco Trail is approximately 1.5 kilometres long. It is located in Emen, 4 kilometres from Balvan, and ends at the Momina Skok Waterfall on the Negovanka River.
The Emen Gorge was designated a natural landmark in 1980. It covers 25.5 hectares and reaches a height of approximately 80 metres.
Culture
Emen Fortress is located on the hill next to the entrance to the gorge. It successively served as a Roman, Byzantine and Bulgarian fortress; weapons and coins from these periods were found there.
The Church of the Holy Archangel Michael in Emen was built in 1879. Local customs also include the Tryphon Zarezan winemaking tradition: this includes visits to nearby vineyards, pruning the vines and sharing banitsa, cured meat and wine.
Practical Information
Hiking equipment, comfortable shoes and a flashlight are recommended for visitors to the Emen Eco Trail. Emen Cave is 3,113 metres long and 40 metres deep. It has vertical sections and requires alpine equipment and a rope; a large bat colony lives inside it.
