Culture

Arbanasi preserves remarkable architectural residential monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries, including the Konstantsaliev and Hadzhiiliev houses. The village also has fortified houses surrounded by high stone walls.

Arbanasi has a distinct ecclesiastical character: seven churches in Arbanasi were built between the mid-16th and late 18th centuries, expanded several times, and decorated with frescoes. In the Nativity Church, the wall paintings cover more than 2,000 square metres. An inscription in St George Church records 1709 as the year in which its wall paintings were completed.

St Nicholas Monastery offers accommodation and remains an active convent.

Geographical Location

Arbanasi is situated on a high plateau, about 4 km from Veliko Tarnovo. Bus route 12 connects Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi.
