History and Culture

Mezdra is home to the ancient and medieval fortress of the Kaleto archaeological complex, whose remains date back to five historical periods. Excavated finds are displayed in a permanent exhibition. There is also a model of the Roman and Late Antique fortress, workshops for local crafts, an information centre, and a souvenir shop.

Kaleto is described as a paid attraction that can be visited year-round. Available guided tours, access for people with disabilities, its location next to the E-79 main road, and a car park are mentioned. Lectures and informational materials are also available.

Rashov Dol is associated with the deaths of ten members of Botev's detachment. A small burial site containing their remains is located there.

Nature and Trails

The Baba-Iliytsa Trail passes through Prosechen Kamak and reaches Cherepish Monastery. Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park includes the villages of Eliseyna, Zverino, Lyutibrod, and Ochin Dol, which belong to Mezdra Municipality.

Vola is located in the area around Mezdra. Okolchitsa, Bazova Mogila, and Manyashki Vrah are also located in the surrounding area of Mezdra.
