Water and Landscape

The Mrežnica is 64 kilometres long and has 93 travertine barriers, cascades and waterfalls. In Belavići, Mrežnica bathing areas are classified as key tourist facilities. Kavurov slap is a named waterfall on the Mrežnica in Belavići, below the new bridge.

Swimming is possible at the Mrežnica bridge and at nearby river locations, including Vesela Livada and Otok ljubavi. Canoe rental may be available; availability should be checked before travelling.

Culture and History

Numerous historic mills have been preserved along the Mrežnica, many of which have been adapted for tourism. The Belavići Bridge over the Mrežnica has the cultural heritage designation GN 01.

The current reinforced-concrete bridge over the Mrežnica in Belavići was opened on 26 October 2012, replacing the old wooden bridge. Wooden railing elements on the bridge were replaced and new lighting was installed. The old wooden bridge was described as the longest bridge of its kind in Croatia.

Routes and Travel

County road Ž3183 leads from Belavići via Gornje Bukovlje to Zvečaj. Belavići can be reached by car or train. Vesela Livada is a beach bar in Belavići next to the Mrežnica, offering drinks, food and ice cream. Both places mentioned, Vesela Livada and Otok ljubavi, are approximately 13 minutes on foot from the railway station in the direction of Duga Resa. The train journey from Zagreb Main Railway Station takes approximately one and a half hours.

Events

By December 2024, Klub Vodomar had already been organising the traditional Božićni rafting on the Mrežnica for 18 years; it starts in Belavići and follows the river downstream towards the bathing area of Duga Resa.
