Nature
Within the area of the City of Duga Resa, the “Significant Landscape Mrežnica” protected area covers 1,401.79 hectares. It includes the lower course of the Mrežnica located within the city area of Duga Resa.
More than 90 travertine waterfalls have been recorded for the Mrežnica in the surrounding area; 29 travertine barriers have been recorded within the “Significant Landscape Mrežnica” protected area. The Mrežnica watercourse is an important habitat for the strictly protected thick-clawed crayfish and noble crayfish. The Mrežnica area is also home to six fish species endemic to the Danube basin.
The Mrežnica protected landscape encompasses karst geology with caves, sinkholes and underground formations. It is also connected to the Natura 2000 site HR2000593 Mrežnica–Tounjčica.
Hiking and Cycling
Vinica can be reached from Mrzlo Polje via Belajske Poljice in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Near Vinica stands a mountain lodge called Mladen Polović, managed by HPD Vinica from Duga Resa.
The Four Karlovac Rivers Trail has a 1-hour-30-minute section from Mrzlo Polje via Mrežnički Most to Vinica. In the surrounding area, the trail can be completed in sections and cycled in dry weather.
