Culture

The Kralj Petar Svačić Cultural Centre in Vojnić houses the local cinema and library. Films, theatre performances, concerts, workshops and educational programmes take place there. The cultural centre is also listed as primary tourism infrastructure in the Municipality of Vojnić.

The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua serves as the parish centre of the Vojnić parish. It stands in the centre of Vojnić and was consecrated in 2011. The Vojnić Library and Reading Room serve as the municipality’s cultural and information centre and provide access to knowledge, information and cultural content.

Filmski Uskrs i Vaskrs is a recurring film programme at the Vojnić Cultural Centre. It combines film screenings, a filmmaking workshop and a round-table discussion about children and film in small communities.

History

In the wider municipal area of Vojnić, the remains of the Orthodox Church of St. Petka in Kolarić are entered in the Croatian Register of Cultural Goods. Stari grad Klokoč is a protected cultural good and is also listed in the Croatian Register of Cultural Goods. The Orthodox Church of Kolarić has been returned to use, with liturgical and pastoral services held there.

Mlin Žuti Put Radonja is a preserved example of the traditional local milling tradition and provides insight into traditional water-powered grain processing. The mill can be reached by private vehicle via a well-maintained gravel road. The Škrgića Mill was built in 1938 and remains in operation as part of the local milling tradition.

Otmić Fortress is a circular fortress dating from the sixteenth century, of which part of the cylindrical tower remains.

Nature

In the wider municipal area of Vojnić, Petrova Gora is associated with preserved beech, fir, oak and hornbeam forests, water springs, diverse flora and fauna, and ornithologically important species.

Petrovac Ornithological Park is located on Petrova Gora and can be reached via a marked trail that passes by the Pauline Monastery towards the King’s Tomb. The park has a lookout tower for observing birds and other animals.

The remains of the Pauline Monastery of St. Peter on Mali Petrovac date from 1303 or 1304 and are described as one of Croatia’s oldest Pauline monasteries. The Central Partisan Hospital in Pišin Gaj was built between 1942 and 1943 and comprised 32 buildings.

The King’s Tomb is traditionally associated with the death of King Petar Svačić in 1097.

Routes

The Petrova Gora hiking loop in the wider municipal area of Vojnić comprises red and green trails that begin and end at the Muljava Hunting Lodge. Each of the two trails takes approximately four hours. An asphalt road leads to the Petrovac Memorial Site; hiking trails also lead to the monument.

The King’s Tomb can be reached via a gravel road and is marked by a memorial plaque. The Kraljev Put educational trail has been adapted for wheelchair users and blind visitors and includes explanations in Braille.

The state connecting cycle route Barilović–Vojnić–Petrova Gora passes through Vojnić.

Local Life

The market in the wider municipal area of Vojnić sells agricultural produce, fruit and vegetables from the surrounding villages, homemade processed foods and handicrafts.

Regular events take place in the wider area of the Municipality of Vojnić. Green Night is a two-day sporting event with a cultural programme and traditional Kordun dishes. The Mushroom Festival in Muljava in October features exhibitions of edible and inedible mushrooms as well as an exchange of knowledge.

Transport

Vojnić Bus Station is the central point of public transport in the municipality and provides basic connections to Karlovac, Topusko and nearby settlements.
