Nature

In Podgrađe, the “Putem žira” forest educational trail runs through stands of pedunculate oak, European ash, hornbeam, linden and black locust trees and is suitable for walking and jogging. The educational trail features information boards, signposts, nesting boxes and a covered rest area.

Water

The fish mentioned in the region of the Bosut and Spačva include carp, pike-perch and northern pike. The Bosut and Spačva rivers are described as fish-rich waters popular with recreational anglers.

Cycling

The 39 km trekking/gravel cycling loop starting and ending in Nijemci crosses a bridge over the Bosut to Podgrađe and then continues upstream along the river; numerous bird calls can be heard along this section.

The “Šumama Srijema” cycling route enters the settlement of Podgrađe after crossing a bridge. Staro groblje is also the fourth point of the cycling route in Podgrađe.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Simon and Jude Thaddeus in Podgrađe dates from 1829. Approximately 3 km northeast of Podgrađe, on the left bank of the Bosut, lies the protected archaeological site of Grac–Sv. Lovro, with the remains of a medieval fortress, settlement, parish and market town; historical sources document it from 1387/88 to 1528.

Podgrađe is located near the state border with Serbia. The Zagreb–Lipovac motorway is part of Podgrađe’s transport connections and surrounding area.
