Nature and Activity

The Staševica Valley is surrounded by mountains and shaped by the Matica River. Unpaved roads running through the fields serve as cycling routes in the Staševica Valley. Polje Jezero near Staševica is a cycling destination and also Croatia’s first cycling destination organized around a network of intersections. The Polje Jezero cycling network enables visitors to put together routes through vineyards, along the Matica River, and to viewpoints.

The Bike and Wine excursion starts in Staševica and returns to Staševica for a tasting of wine and food at a local winery. Trnak is a grape variety that grows exclusively in the Staševica Valley.

Culture and History

The parish church of St. Anastasius (St. Staš) in Staševica was built in 1979. A four-month restoration of the parish church of St. Anastasius in Staševica has been completed.

Staševica is described as being named after Saint Anastasius (St. Staš). Near Jezero are the remains of a 5th-century Early Christian basilica dedicated to him. The cult of Saint Anastasius was apparently widespread between the Neretva region and the Dubrovnik hinterland.

The Putevima Predaka hiking excursion begins in the center of Staševica. It explores old villages, drinking water springs, religious buildings, and ancient necropolises around Staševica. Nearby, the excursion visits the Stećci necropolises of Grebine–Crnoća and Kod Kule. The guided Putevima Predaka excursion also includes a winery and OPG stop in Staševica, with tastings of local specialties and wine.

Water

The meeting point for the kayak tour in Staševica offers free parking. A kayaking excursion on the Matica River reaches the main bathing area in Staševica.
