Culture and History

In the western part of Hum – Sv. Vid are the remains of the Chapel of Saint Vitus. The residents of nearby Vrbanj maintain a procession to Hum – Sv. Vid.

The medieval building complex in Vrbanj, also known as The King’s Court, is said to have been the seat of ducal rulers before the foundation of the commune. The Parish Church of the Holy Spirit was built in the 18th century on the site of an older church. Its main altarpiece by Baldassare d’Anna depicts the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.

Religious Tradition

Vrbanj is one of six settlements involved in the UNESCO-listed Za Križen procession. This is a more than 500-year-old nocturnal religious procession held from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday.

Routes and Landscape

The Za Unesco-m 704 route runs through Dol and Vrbanj. After leaving Vrbanj, it continues through vineyards and olive groves towards Jelsa. The route is 22.7 kilometres long.
