Culture and History

Next to Valtura, on Glavica Hill, lies the associated Nezakcij (Vizače), an archaeological park beside the village. The site is associated with the Histri and preserves architectural remains from the Roman and Late Antique periods.

The parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St John is located in the village. It was built in 1899 in the Neo-Gothic style and has an octagonal bell tower. The settlement centre of Valtura developed around the ruins of St Martin’s Church and a new church dedicated to St John, built there in the 17th century.

The surrounding area also preserves ecclesiastical heritage: the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kostanjica was first mentioned in the 16th century; it has a semicircular apse and a bell gable. Gothic wooden statues from this church are kept in the Diocesan Museum in Poreč.

Svetica is a folk festival held in Valtura on the central playing field.

Visitor Information

The Nesactium archaeological site is open to visitors year-round and admission is free. Guided tours with expert staff are available on request.

Nesactium is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility. Wheelchair users can use the main entrance and move around the site independently. There is also a small museum building on the grounds.

Cycling

The Istra Bike: Nesactium Trail offers views of nature and prehistoric sites. It leads to Valtura’s main square, where the Neo-Gothic Church of St John stands. Cycling Route 332 runs from the Church of St Jerome in Muntić to Valtura.

Connections

Valtura is connected by road to Ližnjan and Pula.
