Kavran: Hotels and accommodations

Kavran is located on a plateau 150 meters above sea level, above coastal bays. The town offers sea views and rocky beaches. In addition, the Municipality of Marčana includes Kavran in its municipal transport timetable for journeys to and from Pula.

Culture and history

Three listed cultural heritage features are associated with Kavran: Velika Gromača, the Church of Saint Jerome, and Štacijon, an Austro-Hungarian signal station. The Church of Saint Jerome is an 18th-century single-nave church with a side chapel, sacristy, and three stone altars. It was built in the 18th century on the site of an older church mentioned in the 15th century, and its front façade features a bell tower.

Kavran was resettled in the 17th and 18th centuries by refugees from Dalmatia and Boka Kotorska. Vela Gromača is associated with evidence of Kavran’s prehistoric settlement, including Neolithic stone blocks. The waters of Kavran between Sv. Stjepan and Cape Sika are listed as a protected asset.

Coast

Školjić is a small pebble beach surrounded by rock slabs with small niches for privacy. The beach is located near Kavran, 2.5 kilometers from the town. It can be reached via a local road, followed by gravel paths and finally a short concrete descent with rope handrails.

A snorkeling site has been designated in Školjić Bay for exploring marine biodiversity. Školjić Beach also has two underwater arches at a depth of about three meters, which are easy to swim through. Swimming is listed as one of the coastal activities associated with Kavran.
