Šumber’s historic settlement developed above the Raša Gorge around a medieval castle and a lower castle area. The settlementscape includes a rustic former town loggia and the Baroque parish church of Saints John and Paul. It stands on the edge of Šumber above the Raša Gorge; the present building dates from 1679, while the side chapels were added in 1705.

A Gothic chapel dedicated to Saint Quirinus is located in the Šumber cemetery. Its surviving structure includes a Glagolitic inscription from 1540 referring to roof repairs.

Geographical setting

Standar, Sisol and Trba are located approximately in the surrounding area of Šumber; all three are designated as mountains. In the wider regional surroundings of Šumber are Dvigrad Castle, the Soardo-Bembo Palace, Vižače, which is designated as an ancient site, and Zvonko Car’s statue “The Maiden With The Seagull”.
