Culture

In Višnjan, the Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot dates from the 13th to the 15th century and stands at the entrance to the old town. In Šaline, the Church of Saint Roch dates from the 16th century; it was moved there in 1929. The municipal loggia of Višnjan dates from the 17th century and was reconstructed in 1753.

Nature

Sovina staza is a marked, 7.7-kilometre hiking trail that begins in the pine grove near the cemetery in Višnjan. The route leads through forests and along unpaved roads between Višnjan and Tičan. It also passes through the villages of Deklevi and Kočići to Tičan and then back towards Višnjan.

The Venetian Lion hiking trail passes through historic Višnjan and the old village of Barat. It begins at Antun Korlević Square in Višnjan, is 4.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 2.5 hours.

Cycling

The Trail of Stars is an official 9.5-kilometre cycling route between Višnjan and Tičan. The route is described as easy and suitable for younger and less experienced cyclists. After Tičan, the Trail of Stars passes through shady Istrian forests and by the lavender fields near Deklevi.

Along the road through the Dubrava forest, former bauxite mining sites remain visible as deep holes.

More impressions

The new site of the Višnjan Observatory is located on Tičan Hill, three kilometres north of Višnjan. Astrofest takes place at the Tičan observatory complex around the summer solstice and includes stargazing and ceremonial bonfires.
