Žestilac: Hotels and Accommodation

Žestilac is crossed by the Dobrinj Discovery Trail and is also part of a challenging 27.5 km MTB route from Klimno through the hilly hinterland of Dobrinjština. The route has 673 m of elevation gain and runs along gravel roads, forest paths and technically demanding singletrack sections.

Trails and Landscape

The Dobrinj Discovery Trail includes a circular threshing floor surrounded by a low stone wall. In the vicinity of Žestilac, the hiking trail leads to the remains of a Roman villa rustica dating from the 6th century. The site offers views of the Crikvenica Riviera, the barrier of the Vinodol Channel and nearby mountain peaks.

Visitors to the Dobrinj area are also recommended to visit Biserujka Cave in Rudine.

History

Historically, the threshing floor was used for threshing grain, village meetings, decision-making and harvest festivals; it is described as part of the island's architectural heritage.

Culture

The Sacred Museum Collection of Dobrinj preserves a copy of the Dragoslav Charter from 1100. It also preserves the religious heritage of Dobrinjština and contains a Venetian altar antependium embroidered with gold by Katarina Frankopan in the 15th century. The Ethnographic Collection of Krk presents island life and folk customs.

The Church of St. Stephen in Dobrinj is described as one of the oldest religious and cultural monuments in Dobrinjština. The Church-Gallery of St. Anthony in Dobrinj hosts summer exhibitions. In the nearby Church of St. Clement in Klimno, the altarpiece is a protected cultural monument.

In depictions, the eastern parts of Krk appear as an area containing some of the island's oldest Croatian settlements and as the cradle of Croatian literacy and culture; the Glagolitic script developed there.
