Culture
Vrbnik is described as a place with a 900-year cultural and historical heritage. It is associated with the medieval fortress, the legacy of the Frankopan family, the Glagolitic tradition, the local dialect, music, dance and enduring customs.
Cultural attractions include the Vitezić Family Library, the memorial printing house of Blaž Baromić and Dragutin ParÄić, the Neda Trinajstić Ethnographic Collection, the bell tower, the church loggia and Desetinec. The Neda Trinajstić Ethnographic Collection displays porcelain sets, furniture, copperware and old photographs donated by families, as well as Vrbnik's traditional folk costume. Desetinec preserves religious paintings and sculptures from former churches and chapels in Vrbnik, as well as archaeological objects from the collection of Vrbnik parish priest Nikola Butković.
The Church of St John the Baptist, dedicated to Vrbnik's patron saint, was built in 1323 and extended in 1611.
Wine
PZ Vrbnik has a tasting room at Namori 2, 51516 Vrbnik. The PZ Vrbnik wine cellar was built in 1932, and grapes are still processed on the premises.
The Valomet sparkling wine is made from VrbniÄka Žlahtina and stored 30 metres below the cliffs above Vrbnik. Dani Vina is traditionally held in Vrbnik at the end of August. The programme includes wine tastings, a fair of local products, winery tours, a race, a wine workshop and night-time cycling.
Trails and Activities
Vrbnik's hiking trails are part of the marked hiking trail network on the island of Krk. The VrbniÄka planinarska zaobilaznica starts in Vrbnik and leads back to Vrbnik.
The Vrbnik–Risika–Garica–Kampelje–Vrbnik route is marked as a trekking route. The underwater area around Vrbnik offers diving opportunities at attractive local dive sites. Mala Javna Bay is located near Sv. Marak in Vrbnik.
Surroundings
Near Vrbnik stands the Church of St Maurice, built in the 11th century in the early Romanesque style and one of the oldest churches in the area. The ruins of St Maurice lie south of Vrbnik on a hill overlooking Vrbnik and the Vinodol Channel.
