Brod Na Kupi: Hotels and accommodations

Brod na Kupi combines a historic river heritage with cultural and nature experiences. Culture

Kaštel Zrinskih is located in the centre of Brod na Kupi next to the Kupa River and is checkpoint KT 34. At its location in Brod na Kupi, the Prirodoslovni muzej Rijeka offers guided group visits and educational workshops by prior arrangement.

Brod na Kupi was first mentioned in 1481 as Brod pri Kupi. The name is connected with a ferry on the Kupa that was used to transport goods and passengers. The Baroque parish church of St Mary Magdalene in Brod na Kupi dates back to 1670.

The permanent exhibition “Wilderness with a Sea View” presents the natural heritage of Gorski Kotar – from the Kupa Valley and karst bedrock through forests and high mountains to the sky and clouds. Its immersive elements include mosses and lichens, a karst sinkhole, a mine, simulated mountain weather and an artificial climbing wall. It also includes encounters with live birds and snakes.

Nature

The local landscape around Brod na Kupi includes cliffs and gorges beside the Kupa and Kupica rivers. MTB Stage E4 runs along the upper Kupa through the protected Kupa Valley, which is also known as “Butterfly Valley” because of its rich biodiversity and more than 100 species of diurnal butterflies.

On the way

The Brod na Kupi–Vilinski Gaj–Kupica hiking trail begins next to Zrinski Castle in Brod na Kupi and follows the Kupa downstream from Brod na Kupi. Along the route, it reaches Vilinski Gaj at the confluence of the two rivers. The trail crosses a stone bridge and a suspension bridge before leading back to Brod na Kupi, and is rated difficulty level 1/5. The route recommends an optional detour through the Bear Educational Trail in the courtyard of the Fran Krsto Frankopan Primary School.
