Donji Okrug: Hotels and Accommodation

Donji Okrug is located in the Kupa Valley, the only inhabited area of Risnjak National Park. At the same time, the village is one of the settlements within the national park and belongs to the administrative area of the town of Delnice. Landscape and Classification

The source of the Kupa River and its surrounding area have been protected since 1963. At 1,528 metres above sea level, the Risnjak massif offers views of the Kvarner Gulf, Istria and the Julian Alps.

Culture

Donji Okrug is one of the settlements in the Kupa Valley designated for traditional architecture and ethnographic heritage. Traditional houses in Gorski Kotar are built from stone and wood; they have steep roofs and decorated gables.

Rodna kuća rijeke Kupe is a visitor centre near the source of the Kupa River and interprets the river’s biodiversity. Goranska kuća znanja is located in an old village school and preserves the history and memories of Razloge. It presents shingle-making in Gorski Kotar, rural architecture, crafts, weaving, basketry and beekeeping.

Park Information

Risnjak National Park has additional information-centre entrances in Kupari and Razloge. The entrances in Kupari and Razloge offer information points with parking areas.

Paths and Activities

In the national park, visitors may move only along marked paths intended for sightseeing; these include hiking and educational trails. There are fourteen hiking trails, most of which are classified as moderately difficult. The Leska educational trail can be explored independently or with professional guidance.

The Roman road through Risnjak National Park runs from Platak towards Lazac and is described as the shortest route from Gerovo towards Platak and Rijeka. The path from Razloge to the source of the Kupa descends steeply to the spring. The path to the source of the Kupa is equipped with 23 information boards along 4.2 kilometres.

For cyclists, the national park offers marked routes ranging from 4.2 to 40 kilometres in length. Šumska pedagogija is a guided group programme lasting two to four hours for schoolchildren, people with special needs and adults.

The national park recommends wildlife observation from May to November. The animals listed include bears, wolves, deer, foxes, wild boars and many bird species. Recreational fishing in the national park is limited to fishing with an artificial fly, using a single hook without a barb or a hook with a pinched-down barb.
