Lovran has several historical landmarks from different periods. The Church of St George was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style; its sanctuary is decorated with 15th-century frescoes. In the old town, the Church of St John the Baptist also stands on the foundations of an earlier 12th-century place of worship. Its frescoes depict scenes from the life of the saint. The Church of the Holy Trinity is considered the oldest surviving monument in Lovran.

The former fortifications include the town tower, the only surviving remnant of the old defensive system, and Stubica, the only surviving original town gate. The gate once connected Lovran with its port. The small harbour of Mandrać was the centre of the town’s economic activity. These places illustrate different aspects of the historic town layout, and their functions should not be considered interchangeable.

The House of Lovran Guc adds a maritime dimension to this picture. It houses permanent exhibitions of boat models from the northern Adriatic and the “Quarneroli” exhibition about seafarers from the northern Adriatic who took part in an expedition to the Arctic Circle. The top floor of the tower in the house is set up as a viewing point and provides historical information about the old town and Lovran. Villa Fernandea is also part of the Riviera’s tourism history: it was the first building there to be constructed exclusively for tourism.

Lovran has direct bus connections to Rijeka, Zagreb and Pula. If you arrive by train in Rijeka or Matulji, you can continue to Lovran by car, taxi or bus. The connections listed offer different travel options; journey times depend on your particular connection.
