Lovran: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture

Lovran's old town is a well-preserved historic centre that was once enclosed by defensive walls and bastions. The Church of the Holy Trinity is Lovran's oldest surviving monument. The Romanesque Church of Saint George was built in the 12th century; its sanctuary contains 15th-century frescoes. The Church of Saint John the Baptist was built in the 14th century in Lovran's old town on the foundations of an earlier sacred structure from the 12th century.

The Stubica Gate is the only surviving original town gate. It connects Lovran with the historic harbour of Mandrać and the harbour with the old town. The cortiles of the old town are small courtyards enclosed by stone walls, with central water cisterns, and are considered gems of medieval urban architecture. The portal lunette “Relief of Saint George in Lovran” is a wooden relief created by local masters at the beginning of the 19th century.

History

Lovran's town tower is the only surviving remnant of the town's former fortification system. It serves as an exhibition space and offers views of the old town, the sea and the Kvarner Islands.

Villa Fernandea was the first establishment on the Riviera built exclusively for tourism. It opened as a guesthouse in 1873 and has retained its original tourist function to this day.

Marunada is held every October as a gastronomic festival dedicated to Lovran chestnuts. Roasted chestnuts, desserts, other chestnut dishes, spirits and chestnut beer are offered there.
